Zakat Ul-Fitr Ramadan 2022 – زكاة الفطر
What is Zakat Ul-Fitr?
Zakat ul-Fitr, or Fitrah, is a form of charity given to the poor at the end of Ramadan.
Zakat ul-Fitr is due on every member of a household, including any children or elderly people. It is obligatory to pay before Eid salah.
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordained Zakat ul-Fitr [Fitrah] to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakat for the person who gives it before the Eid prayer; but it is a mere Sadaqah for the one who gives it after the prayer.” [Abu Dawud and ibn Majah]
How much is Fitra this year in Latvia?
The amount of Zakat ul-Fitr for this year is €8 per person. It has been calculated at the average cost of 2.75kg of rice per person. Zakat ul-Fitr donations are used to provide food for the vulnerable. Therefore the amount of Zakat due for each person is €8, and if donated more than that it is welcomed.
When do we need to pay it?
You need to pay Zakat ul-Fitr by the end of the Ramadan, before the Eid prayers at the latest.
